As a story editor Doris has worked on award winning feature documentaries with
directors Rachel Seed (A Photographic Memory, Independent Spirit “Truer Than
Fiction” Award, 2024); Anne Makepeace (Tribal Justice, Best Feature Documentary,
American Indian Film Festival, 2017 and We Still Live Here (As Nutayean), Full
Frame Documentary Festival Inspiration Award, Telluride Film Festival Moving
Mountains Award, 2010); Rodrigo Reyes (Sansón and Me, Tribeca Film Festival,
PBS Independent Lens 2023); Nicole Newnham (The Disappearance of Shere Hite.
AMC theatrical distribution, 2023); Will Parrinello Emile Norman, By His Own
Design,. Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival HBO Audience Award,. PBS
Independent Lens, 2008). She worked on an early version of Kirsten Johnson’s 2017
multi-award winning Cameraperson.
Doris is also a playwright whose published plays Mrs. California, Shiloh Rules,
and A Christmas Carol have been developed and produced by US regional theaters
including The Mark Taper Forum, The Alley Theater, ACT Seattle, The Alabama
Shakespeare Festival and the Guthrie Theatre/Playwrights Center. Her plays Guns,
Mimi’s Guide, and Tears of Rage have been recorded by L.A. Theater Works.
